A ring is one of the most elegant accessories one can wear. From splurging on yourself to surprising your loved ones, a stunning piece of jewelry goes a long way. However, a perfect ring isn’t limited to design and needs a comfortable fit. But how to measure ring size?

The following ring size guide will help you find your perfect fit at home.

Without an Existing Ring

The first method that answers “How to measure ring size at home?” is using a paper strip or a string.

Method 1

Using Paper Strip/String

  • Wrap a strip of paper or a string around the base of your finger. It should be tight enough not to slip off the finger but loose enough to be removed with minor resistance.
  • Mark the meeting point of both ends with a pen.
  • Use a ruler with millimeter markings to measure the marked area. The result you’ve arrived at is the circumference of the ring.

Ring Stick/ Mandrel

To measure ring size, you can also try a mandrel or ring stick. All you have to do is slide your ring down the stick and mark where it cannot go further. Opt for a narrow stick for a thin ring band and a wide for a thick one.

Tips On How to Measure Ring Size

  • Measure your finger at different times of the day to get the most accurate size.
  • Your fingers shrink when cold. So, avoid measuring your size in chilly weather.
  • Don’t measure the size immediately after alcohol or snack consumption, as both cause swelling in fingers.
  • Decide which hand and finger you want to wear your ring on, as your dominant hand is larger than the other one, causing a difference in measurement.
  • If your knuckles are larger than the base of your finger, opt for a bigger size.
